One of the most powerful ways to use a Jamstik MIDI guitar is as a hands-on controller for hardware synths. Instead of programming notes step-by-step, you can play parts naturally on the guitar—capturing expression, dynamics, and musical ideas in real time.
Whether you’re building a DAW-less setup, integrating external gear into a studio workflow, or just looking for a more tactile way to control synths, Jamstik MIDI guitars make it easy to connect and start playing.
With class-compliant MIDI over USB-C and TRS-MIDI output, the Jamstik MIDI Guitars works seamlessly with a wide range of hardware instruments, grooveboxes, and portable production gear. No drivers, no complex configuration—just plug in and play.
Please make sure to check with the manufacturer of your product to ensure it can be controlled by a 3rd party controller like a Jamstik MIDI Guitar.
Fully Portable, DAW-less Hardware Setup
In this demonstration, we'll showcase how to use the Jamstik with KORG's Electribe Sampler 2 groove box. Equipment Required: TRS-MIDI cable (3.5mm auxiliary cord)
This particular groove box has a 3.5mm TRS-MIDI input, so you do not need to use the TRS-5-Pin MIDI adapter cable included with your Jamstik—you can simply use an aux cable (yes, just a standard aux cord you'd find on a pair of Studio headphones or use to connect a device to a speaker).
The next example shows what a compact hardware rig can look like in practice. This setup uses:
-
Jamstik Core as the expressive MIDI controller
-
A budget Behringer hardware synth for sound generation
-
A KO-2 for sequencing and structure
-
A MyVolts power bank to run the entire system
Everything is powered by batteries, creating a fully portable, DAW-less environment that can be used anywhere—from a desk or couch to live performance or travel sessions.
Instead of relying on a computer, the Jamstik Core is used to perform parts directly into the hardware workflow, adding natural phrasing and guitar-style expression to the synth sounds.
