So far, so good

The setup from the factory wasn't so great. The midi pickup was too far from the strings for good tracking and the action was very high. It took about 45 minutes to correct everything after which I was really quite impressed. The included soft synth needs work, I don't use it.

Studio guitar has taken over as my main guitar! Swiss army knife of guitars!

What I was hoping for when purchasing was a solid midi controller so i could have more space on my desk by eliminating a usb midi keyboard. WHat I got instead was an awesome guitar that can track midi. love it enough that I sold my 1980's Fernandes Telecaster that I have been using in bands on tour in the studio etc, basically my identity, my main axe....since the late 90's. The smaller form factor and gig bag allows me to leave it out in the studio on a stand (i have some clumsy cats) and always had to put my guitar in a case after use. The single coil / humbucker switch allows me to get the sound I would out of two guitars without unplugging. On to the midi: The usb-c cable can go directly into an ipad pro, use a powered usb-c hub and connect more sequencing like the op-z, app routing options with AUM or Audiobus apps as well as daws like cubasis and auria pro are just the beginning. I have used bluetooth midi from the op-z while using trs or usb-c midi with the guitar. I have used an iconnectmidi4+ with an ipad to allow the guitar to control more synths like the behringer k-2, while controlling synth apps on the ipad (plan on using the afx station next). The main thing in this rambling review is that there are 3 options for bluetooth and 6 pickup options for guitar that connect and track wonderfully. I have not even TOUCHED on mpe or expression that adds a whole new level to midi! *some ipad apps react differently but with midi learn you can set the parameters. In conclusion this guitar rocks and works out of the box, with some settings adjusted and tweaks here and there you will be very happy. I did an unboxing video and plan to do a follow soon https://youtu.be/Em2L6V1ZFhs feel free to ask me questions.

Finally found what I’ve been looking for

Ever since I started making music I’ve wanted to have a synth for my guitar because I am so much more comfortable on a guitar than piano. I have used software plugins, and synth pedals into amps that plug into my computer, NONE of them work like this! This is genuinely a great purchase, the design of 6 pickups getting each action of each string is the only kind I’ve seen like that. I’ve tried and researched them all, THIS IS THE ONE.

A breath of air - leaves me creating music without the frustration.....

I have used many guitar-midi solutions since the early 90's - both for live and recording work. The Jamstik Studio has removed all of my frustrations (false notes, latency, set-up and programming etc.) leaving more room for spontaneity and creativity. It is also a dam good guitar as well! As for service, being based in the UK I was resigned to a long delivery and customs hassle. This was NOT the case. From order to delivery to my door it was > 5 days without any issues. And the added gig bag and strap locks were a welcome bonus. I even got my fashion adviser (other half) to choose a matching strap - it's great to have the buy in from the boss! I am working with Sonar and have many different plug-ins and external hardware - I haven't tripped over an issue yet and now don't expect to. Overall this is an awesome beast - keep up the good work.

Great guitar & MIDI controller

Innovative, great alternative for MIDI controller. Plays well as a regular guitar. Would be great if USB-C cable was angled so as not to damage port on the guitar.

Jamstik Studio: Work of art.

I love this guitar, it sounds fantastic and is the hub of my low-key home studio. With it being a real guitar and not just a MIDI keyboard it’s now replaced my main guitar. I love the look and feel of it, a lot higher quality than I originally anticipated and genuinely feels fantastic. The neck size is perfect for me and feels like a fender sized neck, I really love the pick holder in the “head” of the guitar too. I justified this guitar because I knew it would effectively replace my main electric and I’m so happy I made the jump to get it. The customer service was a 10/10 too, very fast replies and helpful service. Genuinely would recommend.

Must need for guitarist

This is by far the best midi guitar you can get out there. Very accurate and smooth with any VST instrument. Seriously impressed and looking forward to future updates.

I have had so much fun playing the Jamstik Studio, using the dedicated VST is awesome and using it with Logic Pro has been a lot of fun. Playing it in normal electric guitar mode has been a lot of fun as well.

It is so wonderful and worthy to own it!

I is not only a good hardware design from Instrument Engineer, but also a good software design for the music composers.

I love it

Hi Jamstik team, As I am not a professional musician, it took me a while to find my way around with this instrument. I use it mostly as a guitar and I also started to experiment with the Midi options. I love the neck as it feels really easy to play. Even though it has 24 frets, it is small enough to take with you on the road so that is a bonus. I am not sure if people will care for my recordings but who cares...playing with the Jamstik is a LOT of fun! Overall I am very satisfied with it and I recommend others to buy it and enjoy it.

Plug n’ play user friendly midi solution!

The guitar itself is very playable and I speak as someone who owns, ahem, ‘quite a few’. Unlike other devices I’ve tried, this is a highly user friendly device. I was using it to play 3rd party synth plugins in Logic literally right after plugging it in! Moreover, the tracking is superb. Well worth the money!

my new favorite guitar

fantastic guitar overall. The only complaint I have is that, depending on your guitar stand, you have trouble plugging the charging cable in. Probably not an issue with 90% of the of the stands out there but if you have a low profile one, be aware.

Is the new Studio MIDI Guitar available left-handed?

We're gauging interest in mass production of a lefty model, so please join our waitlist if you have an intent of purchasing and we'll let you know first when they are available.

Is it working on pitch recognition or contact sensors?

We are using a special MIDI pickup for pitch recognition paired with our own unique onboard algorithmic processing to ensure this job is done as quickly and accurately as possible—all while retaining genuine guitar playability.

How long does pitch conversion take? Can you share latency numbers?

The time it takes the pitch conversion to process the information into MIDI data over USB or TRS averages to 10ms. The typical range is from 6ms-15ms. The final amount of latency will vary depending on the hardware specifications and task management of the paired device. Other measures can be taken to adjust latency by using the buffer rate settings of your DAW.

Are there onboard sounds?

No, there are no onboard sounds or effects built-in to the guitar. Just like a lot of MIDI keyboards, you'll have to connect your Jamstik to a device (smartphone, tablet, laptop/desktop computer) running either our software or third-party software to generate the sound. There is also a standard 1/4" guitar output, so you can utilizes amps, pedals, and interfaces as usual.

Can it be used for tabbing with software like Guitar Pro?

The Studio MIDI Guitar is compatible with any apps and DAWs that accept MIDI-input. It works great for scoring in Guitar Pro by entering notes step by step, however, you will need to add things like hammer-on, slides, bends & other articulations manually after the note information has been entered since the software does not currently support real-time MIDI implementation.

Will it be able to transpose MIDI to different octaves or tunings?

In general, whatever physical tuning the guitar is at will dictate the MIDI pitch, so you can set any tuning you like. However, at very low tunings there may be some performance degradation. With 24 frets available, there shouldn't be a great need to octave up or down, but you can always play in standard tuning and transpose the MIDI data in your DAW.

Will the software require a DAW?

While the Studio MIDI guitar will work right out of the box with all MIDI-capable DAWs and plugins, the guitar does not require a DAW. The compatible Jamstik VST/AU Plugin can run as a standalone app on Mac and Windows and includes a curated library of specifically designed sounds for the Studio guitar.

Does it utilize MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression?

Yep, it's sending pitch bend/CC messages on multiple channels.

What are the Minimum & Recommended System Requirements?

Do you have to use special strings?

Any metal strings will work just fine—The MIDI pickup is magnetic, so the guitar requires you to use metal strings rather than nylon. We'd recommend following standard .010–.046 gauges, but slightly below or above this range should be fine, though may require some sensitivity adjustments.

Can I use a Bluetooth speaker or wireless headphones?

No, you'll want to use a wired connection (aux cord) instead of a Bluetooth speaker or wireless headphones to avoid unwanted latency.

Are there any Duties, Taxes, or VAT included in the pricing?

No, every country, state, province, and city has different rules—making it impossible to calculate and pay accurately. All Duties, VAT, or any taxes are the responsibility of the customer.
