Guest Author Cory Wong On the Jamstik's Versatility

December 02, 2014

Recently, I have been doing a lot of traveling with a handful of artists (fly-dates and short run tours). My schedule has kept me in and out of vans, airports, and buses on a regular basis. This makes finding time to pull out a guitar to practice nearly impossible. At the same time, all the flight delays and lay-overs give me an abundance of downtime. The JamStik is perfect for practicing while on the road.

The fact that it has real guitar stings makes it ideal for working on technique exercises or warm-ups. The best part is that when it comes time to board the plane or bus, I can just shove it in my carry-on bag along with my other travel items and be on my way.

It has some controls within the device and the controller in the JamStik app that I can adjust to my picking style and touch, which helps me hone in on the response. I am a Logic Pro user, so I will usually plug it right in to my computer and it syncs right up with Logic. If I'm just on my phone or iPad, I'll use GarageBand or the free JamStik app. It's nice to have the ability to connect to any type of device so I can play around with weird sounds or just record some ideas I'm working on.

Cory Wong makes up one fourth of the jazz-fusion quartet Foreign Motion. Cory is also a music director, producer, arranger, and sideman for TV shows, ads, and a growing group of artists.

In my situation, my wife takes me on business trips and i am usually hanging around the hotel for hours on end with just a tv and my iPad. With my new jamstik, i am able to compose and produce music with my iPad while waiting for her to return. The time just flies. The jamstik is a Godsend for me !

Are there any plans to produce a 4 or 5 string bass version?
